About

Our archaeological dig gave local school children and members of the public the opportunity to get hands on in Caistor

The dig was led by Community Archaeologists from Bishop Grosseteste University, and was supported by Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre and the Down your Wold Project as part of British Archaeology week, a National event which saw over 1000 events take place all over the British Isles. During the three days of digging at Cromwell View, Caistor – an area adjacent to the suspected location of Caistor’s Roman Wall – over 250 local people were shown the basics of archaeology including trowel techniques, finds cleaning, and identification.

Our manager, Stephanie Dale, said, “this was a fantastic opportunity for local people to discover more about Caistor’s history and what lies beneath their feet, as well learning new skills which could lead to a new hobby or career path. We were very pleased that the Down Your Wold project agreed to fund this event, and hope that we can plan more hands on activities like this in the future”.DSC00596 DSC00597 DSC00598
